In 2008, the locals of a small residential street in Dublin’s north inner city decided to give purpose to an empty patch of land that was left overgrown, debris-filled and purposeless since the 1980’s. The Hidden Garden documents the transformation of this dumping ground into a vibrant, energetic and award winning community garden.
This project and this film in particular is about the human story behind a simple idea, a story that documents the slow emergence of far more than vegetables, but a reawakening of a community.

This short film was made as part of an artist residency with Draíocht in West Dublin. Over a period of 15 months, I worked with a group of ten older people in the Dublin 15 area where I was extending my investigations into the idea of invisibility that many people feel as they age. I choose to look at fashion.
This film documents some of the participant’s personal thoughts on growing older with fashion. Located in a place of their choosing, the piece placidly explores this theme with three of the participants.

GUBU is an acronym created in response to words spoken by the Irish Taoiseach, Charles Haughey in 1982 – Grotesque, Unbelievable, Bizarre and Unprecedented.
This project began as a personal projection of my own experience with the Irish economy and Irish politics. I adopt the persona of Gubu the clown, who explores the new landscape of Ireland. Gubu stumbles in search for something through desolate and destructive landscapes. Confused, dazed and in a hurry to rid himself of the surroundings he inhabits, he reflects on how he got himself into this mess and how he will get himself out.
